Updated: Sep 9

Chairman Kees Rade on Founding DWB and the Evolving Landscape of Global Diplomacy

In a world increasingly defined by complexity and interdependence, the role of diplomacy is evolving rapidly.

In Diplomats Without Borders’ (DWB) first member interview, we speak to chairman and founder Kees Rade - a former Dutch diplomat with over 40 years of experience in international relations. The interview covers the challenges facing modern diplomacy, and the mission of DWB in promoting a more collaborative global environment.

Rade articulates DWB’s core objectives: conflict mediation, training, and promoting multilateralism. Inspired by the model of Médecins Sans Frontières, DWB seeks to harness the expertise of retired diplomats and experts to address pressing global challenges, particularly by strengthening and supporting diplomacy in conflict zones and developing regions.

Rade emphasizes that DWB is committed to representing the diverse perspectives from over 40 countries, ensuring that the voices of diplomats from various backgrounds are heard in the pursuit of a more peaceful and cooperative world.

Join us as DWB intern Maya Mele asks the chairman to delve into the future of diplomacy, and the importance of collaboration in addressing the challenges of our time.
